Typing test, hand by hand
Type the words shown. We time every key and work out how fast and accurate each hand is on its own.
This test needs a physical keyboard. On a phone or tablet, try the tapping test instead.

The timer starts on your first key. A wrong key is counted as a mistake, and you need to type the right one to move on. Lower case only, no capitals or punctuation.

Overall
Time per key
Average time to press each key correctly, in milliseconds. The stronger the colour, the slower the key.
What these numbers mean
- Speed is the time between one correct key and the next, turned into words per minute as if every key were typed at that pace.
- Accuracy is the share of key presses that were the right key.
- Steadiness shows how even your rhythm is. Lower is steadier. Under 30% is typical for practised typists.
- Slow-down compares the second half of the test with the first. A positive number means that hand got slower as the test went on.
- In everyday typists the left hand is usually a little slower than the right, by roughly 10 milliseconds a key (Dhakal and others, 2018). So a small gap is normal.
